SUP Yoga: An Original Way to Enjoy the Sea and Get in Shape
Due to its benefits for the mind and body, SUP Yoga (Stand-Up Paddleboard Yoga) has become one of the favorite activities at the most famous and exclusive beaches in the world. And Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit is ideal for practicing it.
It is a combination of stand-up paddleboarding and traditional yoga, where the positions and sequences are adapted to be done while you float on a board on the sea or pool.
In fact, you need not be an advanced yogi or an expert paddler to practice this interesting sport. While beginners develop a better sense of balance, they strengthen the abdominal area and lower back and gain greater awareness of their body. For the more advanced, this sport brings a new challenge to realizing the positions they perform on land, on a board that is balanced against the movement of the sea.
A normal session begins with stretching on the sand, performing gentle movements and relaxation and breathing exercises, as well as basic paddleboard lessons. Afterward, bilingual teachers guide the practitioners to the sea, where they begin a 60-minute class on the board, including meditation to connect the body, mind and spirit with nature, as well as a Hatha yoga class. Teachers are always attentive to each student, adapting the degree of difficulty of positions and exercises to each person’s level of experience. The practice ends with a session of Savasana, a complete body relaxation that becomes a total experience, thanks to the sounds of the sea and the birds and the refreshing sea breeze. At the end, there is time to socialize or take photos and then paddle to shore, where instructors help students get out of the water safely.
If you want to stimulate your mind and body with the benefits of practicing two sports in one, besides enjoying incomparable views of the ocean and making new friends, we recommend you practice SUP Yoga. But if you want something really different, try SUP Pilates and SUP Fitness classes!
