Ballet Sones de México: Gala Performance in Puerto Vallarta

Recently, the Vallarta Lifestyles editorial team had the opportunity to speak with Iván Lozano, director of the Ballet Sones de México, who shared details about the free-of-charge gala performance that will take place at the Teatro Vallarta on June 11th, 2023 at 7:00pm.

· What are the origins of the Ballet Sones de México? Where do they come from?
The ballet started in September 2011. In March 2012, by invitation, it took over the Mexican Show Line with eight dancers. In 2018, it was integrated as a representative group in the Ballet Folclórico of the Universidad del Valle de Atemajac, where it integrates 16 dancers.

Since then, it has participated as a local group in various festivals in the region. At present it maintains its autonomy and takes the name of Ballet Folclórico Sones de México, with 20 dancers from the region of Puerto Vallarta, Bahía de Banderas and Cabo Corrientes.

· Career of the director of the Ballet Sones de México
Originally from Orizaba, Veracruz, professor Iván Lozano is the director of the Ballet Sones de México. During his 23-year professional career, he has worked with Nieves Paniagua’s National Dance Company and Amalia Hernández’s Ballet Folclórico de México at the Palacio de Bellas Artes.

· What kind of dance and/or dances do they perform?
The Ballet Sones de México incorporates a representative repertoire of music from Oaxaca, Nuevo León, Chihuahua, Veracruz, Jalisco, Nayarit, Michoacán, Chiapas, Sinaloa and Guerrero, as well as pre-Hispanic dances from central Mexico.

Mariachi Nuevo Continental, Los Jaraneros Raíces and Banda Sangre Nayarita will provide the live music.

Ballet Sones de México

· How long is the gala performance?
During the 90-minute performance, Ballet Sones de México will use the stylization of movements within traditional Mexican dance, as well as the dynamics of the dancer/actor, telling love stories through dance.

This is a completely free event. Tickets are available directly from the Vallarta Institute of Culture, as well as through the Ballet Sones de México social networks. A week before the event, there will be a box office at the Teatro Vallarta.

Ballet Sones de México

This function is carried out by the Municipal Government of Puerto Vallarta and the Vallarta Institute of Culture, with the aim of spreading culture throughout the region.
