La Lancha: A Surfers’ Paradise in Riviera Nayarit
For surfers, La Lancha beach is a must, a hidden paradise in the northern part of the bay, ideal for communing with Mother Nature.
And this pristine spot is easy to reach. Just head north, toward Punta de Mita. A couple of minutes after you pass the Bolongo development, you will see some commercial spaces named La Lancha to your right. The path accessing the beach is opposite, with a small makeshift parking lot where you can safely leave your car.
With board in hand, the adventure begins as you enter the jungle, following a well-defined path. Along the way, you’ll hear birds singing and, if you are lucky and pay attention, catch fleeting glimpses of other animals. After five or ten minutes of walking, you will begin to feel completely removed from civilization. And as you progress, the unmistakable sound of the breaking waves will penetrate the lush vegetation that gives rise to a wide beach of fine golden sand and crystalline green water.
At the end of the trail, to your right, you will see a small tree in the sand that provides a shady spot ideal for taking a moment to appreciate the magnificent landscape. While there, you can decide whether to jump in and start enjoying the excellent waves right away or walk a little more to fully explore the area. If you decide to explore, you will find two small, easily accessible hills from which you can survey the fabulous panorama and get a better view of your surfing options. Do not forget to bring your GoPro, as you can get some spectacular shots of the beach, as well as your exploits in the sea.
This magical spot is enjoyed by residents and tourists alike, so do not pass up this unique opportunity to make new friends and enjoy an adventure without equal.
Please note that you must come prepared with everything you’ll need, as no services are available at the beach. However, if you do not want to carry anything but your board, La Lancha Surf Café, on the road near the entrance, offers healthy food in a surf atmosphere.
