Galeria Contempo encourages folks to attend a double opening reception for talented Mexican artists María Bayardo and Alfonso Peña, to take place at the art venue this coming Friday, January 27, from 6:00pm – 10:00pm.

María Bayardo is a sculptor currently living in Guadalajara, whose works are primarily made of bronze, fiberglass resin and fiber. Bayardo’s pieces are influenced in part by Picasso and the multidimensional elements he was able to capture in his work, as well as by the 360-degree sculptures of renowned sculptor Giambologna. Each piece expresses a unique sense of freedom and gives the human body a live-like quality.

Addressing the sculpture with organic shapes, María Bayardo combines cubist concepts and elements of the ancient Palaeolithic Venus figurine that make her work express truthfulness and provide a unique feeling. María’s sculptures also explore Futurism, with one-of-a-kind rhythmical physical movements.

You can learn more about her work at www.mariabayardo.com.

Alfonso Peña is an abstract artist who is constantly creating paintings using different textures with oils on canvas. He studied Art and Architecture at the University of Nuevo Leon in Monterrey and currently resides in Puerto Vallarta.

Alfonso Peña’s work is influenced by his education as an architect. In his paintings, he uses primarily colors of the earth and neutral tones with flashes of bright color. His works feature geometric forms such as squares and circles but also other more organic such as Mayan and other ethnic symbols.

“I have always felt that when someone chooses a piece of art, a relationship is formed between that person and the artist. The intimate expression of the artist now occupies the personal space of another person. Maybe this is why I love to paint”, Alfonso says.

"Vallarta Lifestyles is very similar to The Agency, we have a similar client base, [residents and tourists] who seek for information about the topics that are featured in each issue; lifestyle, restaurants, and architecture, among others. And, because the way your magazines are located, we can really capture the clients we want."

“One of the biggest benefits of advertising in Vallarta Lifestyles is that a lot of readers keep it as a bible. People have arrived to our gallery looking for the pieces that are in the advertisements published 5 or 6 years ago, and that’s really valuable for us. Besides being an excellent magazine where is possible to find the newest in the destination, it is a publication dedicated to the public we want to reach and keep.”

It is a reliable and professional magazine that has helped us with the marketing of our restaurant several times, through well done photography or articles. We feel that we understand each other.”
