Puerto Vallarta Cruise Ship Visitors to Increase in 2023
Puerto Vallarta has experienced a significant growth in the tourism sector, especially in cruise tourism. According to the Jalisco Tourism Secretariat (SECTURJAL), our destination has welcomed 456,435 cruise passengers from January to October 2023, a remarkable increase of 50 percent compared to the same period last year.
In 2022, the number reached 305,106 visitors, according to the Administration of the National Port System of Puerto Vallarta (ASIPONA). This significant growth is attributed to the various efforts of the State Government, through SECTURJAL, in collaboration with several shipping companies.
The shipping industry has played a crucial role in the influx of tourists, accounting for 9 percent of the total number of visitors to Puerto Vallarta.
“The increase in the number of cruise ship visitors to Puerto Vallarta is an indication of the international positioning of our beach destination.” —Vanessa Perez, director of SECTURJAL.
According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the average spending of cruise visitors has increased by 6.8 percent, reaching 80.64 USD per day from January to October 2023, compared to 75.51 USD for the same period in 2022.
