Puerto Vallarta Prepares to Host the World’s Elite Ultramarathoners
Puerto Vallarta is ready to once again become the epicenter of global trail running. From November 7 to 9, 2024, our destination will welcome the planet’s top runners for the third edition of the UTMB® World Series in Mexico, the most prestigious mountain ultramarathon event.
This year, participants will face challenging routes that traverse the imposing Sierra Madre Occidental and the lush landscapes of Mexico’s Pacific coast. Inspired by the worldview of the Wixárika people, the race categories — such as Wixárika, Hikuri, and Haramara — stand out not only for their technical complexity but also for their connection to the region’s sacred nature.
Athletes will navigate trails winding through agave fields, cross dense jungles, and enjoy panoramic views of Banderas Bay, finishing their courses at the iconic Malecón, adorned with monumental catrinas and elements honoring the Día de Muertos.
Alejandro Ochoa, the event’s director, emphasized the importance of our city as an international hub for this series: “The blend of mountains and coastline in this destination makes it one of the most attractive for athletes worldwide. We are proud to continue establishing Puerto Vallarta as a sports tourism landmark, while also creating a significant economic impact in the region.”
The UTMB® World Series promises to be one of the most exciting events of the year, drawing thousands of visitors and solidifying Puerto Vallarta as a must-visit destination for both sports enthusiasts and those seeking a unique experience in contact with nature.
