Rancho R&R: A Masterpiece of Architectural Excellence
With the recent announcement of one of the most luxurious homes in Vallarta · Nayarit being on the market, the editorial staff of Vallarta Lifestyles travelled to the north tip of Banderas Bay to find out more about the incredible details of this one-of-a-kind property.
About the Owners
Rancho R&R was built by well-known tech industry gurus Jon Rubinstein and Karen Richardson. Jon is famously dubbed “The Podfather” for his work developing the iPod, as well as the contributions to many Apple products that are used on a daily basis. He also served as CEO of Palm, Co-CEO of Bridgewater and is currently a director at Amazon.com. Karen is also a force in the tech industry, with over 30 years forging her way in that male-dominated world, where she has held leadership positions that led to her being named one of the most influential women in tech. Karen is also a woman of impeccable style and taste, outside of her work life, she has also served on the board of the San Francisco Opera.
Suffice to say that Jon and Karen are a driven couple with incredibly high standards. Their passion for quality can be seen in Rancho R&R, a property that was completed in 2007. The attention to detail and care put into constructing this impeccably designed estate home is easy to see through its seven bedrooms and the iconic “X” designed layout that showcases the spectacular views of the bay in supreme privacy.
Exclusive Location
Rancho R&R is located within the exclusive development of Punta Mita, a gated peninsula that offers 1,500 acres of lush tropical vegetation surrounded by white sand beaches and blue waters.
The private luxury development of Punta Mita includes 17 residential communities and two luxury hotels: Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita and The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort.
In addition, residents of this development have exclusive access to its internationally recognized beach clubs, gourmet restaurants, boutiques and spas. The two golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, Pacífico and Bahía, where the famous hole Tail of the Whale is located (the only green in the world located on a natural island), also stand out.
A Closer Look at Rancho R&R
This sprawling 16,000-square-foot property is considered a masterpiece of modern architecture, with every detail meticulously planned to combine luxury and comfort with the lush natural beauty of the bay. Both elegant and original, the two-axis angles of the “X” design provide unparalleled views of the Mexican Pacific and Banderas Bay, in ultimate privacy and luxury from practically any place on the property.
The planning, design and construction of this magnificent property spanned five years and was conceived by renowned architects Alfonso López Baz and Javier Calleja, founders of Grupo LBC, a Mexico City office with more than 30 years of experience.
López Baz and Calleja implemented a design that organizes each living space by separating meeting, entertainment and relaxation areas. The result is a more intimate and private setting.
Rancho R&R can accommodate up to 14 people with its seven bedrooms, where a very private master suite with large glass windows for unobstructed views, stands out.
Amenities
Rancho R&R offers activities for the whole family. Two swimming pools provide a variety of recreational options: a semi-Olympic infinity-edge 25-meter long pool for the swimmers and a multi-level deck pool, ideal for children and those looking to luxuriate in it.
Rancho R&R offers two dining rooms, one surrounding the pool area and another adjacent to the elegant Arclinea kitchen, inspired by modern Italian design. The kitchen is at once elegant and functional, providing just the right balance of culinary work space and top of the line equipment, with the perfect area to socialize, while enjoying the beautiful ocean view.
The interiors of this beautiful property are complemented by two entertainment rooms, one near the main living room and the other in the private guest wing.
One-of-a-Kind Decorative Elements
The interior was designed by acclaimed Mexican architect and designer Erica Krayer, who brought her exceptional experience in both residential and resort projects and is a co-founder of UribeKrayer, an interior design and art consulting firm based in Mexico City.
Among the ornamental pieces the home includes, there is a carefully curated contemporary art collection from several award-winning Mexican artists such as Xawery Wolski, Christina Del Valle, Paloma Torres and Jan Hendrix, as well as Pedro Diego Alvarado, grandson of the famous muralist Diego Rivera.
In addition to the handcrafted furniture, this magnificent property offers 206 feet of private white sandy beach with views that can be enjoyed from the hand-woven hammocks and lounge chairs in the secluded relaxation area.
The on-site management team was trained at the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, as well as the Four Seasons Resort Mexico City.
Rancho R&R is backed by SB Realtors, a luxury real estate firm with offices in Guadalajara, Punta de Mita and Puerto Vallarta, where they have represented luxury properties for over 20 years.
