Rufino Tamayo to be Honored in Puerto Vallarta
In a vibrant tribute to the legendary Mexican painter Rufino Tamayo, Galería Atelier 2020 in Puerto Vallarta is preparing to present a unique exhibition that highlights his timeless influence.
The exhibition, titled Forma y color, oda pictórica y gráfica a Tamayo (Form and Color, a Pictorial and Graphic Ode to Tamayo), brings together previously unseen works by more than 80 artists from across the country. It will open to the public on Thursday, October 24th, 2024, with free admission.
The exhibition celebrates the 135th anniversary of Tamayo’s birth, who is globally recognized for his ability to blend modern and traditional elements in Mexican art. Each work on display is inspired by the painter’s distinctive style, renowned for its chromatic exploration and symbolic interpretation of Mexican culture.
The exhibition will remain open for at least two weeks at Galería Atelier 2020, following its success at Galería ICONOS · Instituto de Investigación en Comunicación y Cultura in Mexico City.
“This collection is a celebration of creative freedom, where the techniques and styles of multiple generations of artists come together.” —José Rafael Mauleón, director of Galería ICONOS.
Forma y color, oda pictórica y gráfica a Tamayo is curated by Fernando Aroche, who is internationally recognized for projects like 100 Fridas para Frida (100 Fridas for Frida) y Picasso en la Memoria (Picasso in Memory).
Under the direction of Petru Voichescu, Galería Atelier 2020 (Leona Vicario 226-B, El Centro) will host this homage to one of the great pillars of Mexican art, in a celebration where tradition and innovation converge through color and form.
