Southwest Airlines Plans New Daily Flight from LA to Puerto Vallarta
Southwest Airlines presented an application to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to offer a new non-stop flight from Los Angeles to Puerto Vallarta’s Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport, to begin by year’s end, assuming it gets approved by June 30.
The initiative seems to be related to the fact that the flights inaugurated by the airline last year from Denver, Houston and Orange County to our destination are having excellent results.
“These flights will offer excellent value to US consumers and will contribute significantly to Mexico’s bottom line, which represents a benefit for both the United States and Mexico,” said José Luis Sánchez, Director of Government Affairs for Southwest Airlines. “We hope to work together with the Mexican government in order to obtain approval for these flights as soon as possible.”
If approved, the flight will be operated once a day, all year around, providing additional airlift to both Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit.
“Southwest is a very successful airline thanks to its quality and affordability, aside from having an excellent fleet that allows it to saturate the market,” said Marc Murphy, Managing Director of Riviera Nayarit’s Convention and Visitors Bureau. “As a destination, we’re overjoyed every time an airline wants to fly more tourists here. This proves our tourism recovery is firmly consolidating.”
