Successful Conclusion for the 2024 J/70 North American Championship at Vallarta Yacht Club
The 2024 J/70 North American Championship at Vallarta Yacht Club in Nuevo Vallarta delivered four days of exhilarating sailing and intense competition. With ideal conditions gracing the event, 26 teams battled it out over 11 races, showcasing their skills and determination on the waters of Banderas Bay.
Fernando Perez Ontiveros’ Black Mamba, hailing from the host club, set the tone early, clinching victory in the first race and maintaining a formidable lead throughout the championship. With a stellar performance that saw them consistently finish in the top six, this team secured the title with a total of 28 points, a testament to their skill and teamwork.
However, the competition was fierce, with teams like David Jannetti’s Very Odd (Enigma) of the USA and Eduardo Saenz’s Nimbus from Mexico keeping the pressure on. Very Odd claimed the runner-up position with 40 net points, while Nimbus secured the bronze spot with 53 points, highlighting the international flair of the event.
In the Corinthian division, Eduardo Oetling’s Axolotl emerged triumphant, showcasing the talent in this category. Second place went to Marco Sparvieri’s Buenajunta, while Alan Elihu Baron’s Nawal took third place.
Ricardo Brockmann’s Vincitore and Martina Silva’s Mercenario 6 claimed victory in the One Pro and Mixed+ divisions respectively, adding to the diversity of winners at the championship.
