The Banderas Bay’s Farmers Markets
One of the most important legacies Banderas Bay has received from its northern neighbors is the so-called farmers market, an open-air market where a wide variety of organic produce is available for sale to the general public. That said, it is worth noting the existence of the tianguis in Mexico since the pre-Hispanic era. In fact, the word “tianguis” comes from the Nahuatl “tiānquiztli,” which means ‘market.’
Today, the concepts of the traditional Mexican tianguis and the Anglo-American farmers market have merged, with several of these markets operating around the bay, which attract hundreds of local and foreign visitors eager to purchase all kinds of products, listen to live music and visit with each other.
There are other important markets in the region that combine the traditional charm of Mexican tianguis with the offering of products common in farmers markets, some of the most outstanding listed here.
We have included the schedules of each of them to visit and get to know them!
