UdeG Opens Laboratorio Covid-19 in Puerto Vallarta
On Tuesday, April 28th, 2020, the Universidad de Guadalajara launched the Laboratorio Covid-19 in Puerto Vallarta, which is located within the facilities of the Centro Universitario de la Costa (CUCosta).
This laboratory will have the capacity to process up to 30 daily tests to detect this disease and try to stop the chain of contagion in the Northern Coast of Jalisco, in addition to influence the state of Nayarit to follow the same steps. If necessary, the number of daily tests will increase according to the demand.
Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí, dean of the Universidad de Guadalajara (UdeG), stressed that the academic community of CUCosta contributed to help with their time and knowledge, besides adapting one of its spaces (the Molecular Biology Laboratory) to provide a sampling service in Puerto Vallarta with all the conditions and the necessary scientific and sanitary measures.
The Laboratorio Covid-19 in Puerto Vallarta will operate as follows: calls from people with symptoms or suspected contagion will be received at the number (33) 3540-3001 and the most serious cases will be referred to 911 so medical personnel can come by their homes.
In non-urgent cases, an appointment for the university’s test area will be scheduled, where qualified personnel will welcome the patient, who must arrive by car alone or with a companion.
Specialists and volunteers who work in the laboratory were trained at the Centro Universitario de Ciencias de la Salud (CUCS) to correctly perform screening tests using real-time PCR process, in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization.
