Bidding for a good cause: Biblioteca Los Mangos celebrates its Annual Art Auction

Biblioteca Los Mangos in Puerto Vallarta will be holding its 17th Annual Art Auction this Thursday, January 26, a yearly fundraising event where approximately 25 pieces of art will be chosen for a live auction.

The main purpose of this auction is to raise funds for this cultural center’s annual operational budget, since the institution works “without any official ties to municipal, state or federal governments. Therefore, events such this are fundamental to the continuity of its projects” as noted by María José Zorrilla, spokesperson of Los Mangos Library, a civic association that is celebrating its 20th anniversary as one of the most important voices in the social and cultural life of Puerto Vallarta.

The attendees at the fundraising event will be able to bid for and purchase works of art created by local artists at affordable prices. Not only artists but art galleries and collectors alike will offer their works for sale. The participants will donate a high percentage of the funds to Los Mangos Library.

The Art Auction is a free admission event, where everybody is welcome to bid and enjoy an afternoon of art and culture accompanied by live music performed by local artists and taste delicious snacks and drinks provided by local restaurants at affordable prices, with all proceeds going to the center’s academic and cultural projects.

Besides enjoying a pleasant soiree and supporting a good cause, this event at one of the most important cultural centers in Puerto Vallarta is the perfect excuse to give art and culture a chance, since it “allows for a lively interaction between Puerto Vallarta’s residents, artists and galleries” as mentioned by Zorrilla. Most importantly, as she notes, the auction can be “an excellent opportunity for those looking to enhance their home with new art works or perhaps begin their very own art collection”.
