The world-renowned nature and wildlife publication National Geographic has recently announced its list of 21 Best Beaches in the World, in which Playa del Amor (a hidden hideaway in the Marietas Islands National Park) has been included. This Riviera Nayarit’s treasure topped the ranking and was highlighted as a “geologic wonder” by Kimberley Lovato, the author of the article.

This post was featured on the magazine’s US website, which has more than 26,212,629 monthly views. Other international media outlets, such as the Australian newspaper Herald Sun, the UK’s Daily Mail and Mirror, and the American website Pop Sugar replicated the ranking.

Playa del Amor is the only Mexican beach featured on the list. It’s important to notice that the Marietas Islands National Park is a Protected Natural Area and is currently under certain visitation restrictions. Folks can visit the place via certified tour operators that follow the rules and regulations established by the Comisión Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas (CONANP).

Joining the Top 21 are also the following beaches: Cathedrals Beach in Ribadeo, Spain; Sunset Beach in Brunswick Islands, North Carolina;  Lazy Beach in Koh Rong Samloem Island, Cambodia; Papakolea Beach in Hawaii and Pelican in South Water Caye, Belize.
