Every year, Mexico transforms to welcome one of its most cherished traditions: Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos). Amid marigold flowers (cempasúchil), candles, music, and altars (ofrendas), this celebration honors the memory of those who have passed and celebrates the enduring bond between the living and their loved ones. In Puerto Vallarta, this occasion takes on a special dimension, where the mysticism of Mexican culture meets the beauty of the Pacific Ocean.

From October 26th to November 2nd, 2026, the destination will celebrate the Festival de las Almas (Festival of Souls), featuring more than 28 free family-friendly experiences. During these days, the city’s streets and iconic landmarks will come alive with artistic expressions, monumental installations, and activities that invite visitors to experience this tradition through a blend of heritage, creativity, and festive spirit.

THE MALECÓN: THE HEART OF THE CELEBRATION
Facing the Pacific, the Malecón boardwalk will serve as one of the festival’s primary stages. Its spaces will be adorned with marigold flowers, catrinas, live music, and altars depicting the symbolic return of souls. The coastal backdrop offers a singular setting for a celebration deeply rooted in Mexican culture.

At dusk, a candle-lighting ritual will mark the transition from day to night during La Hora Dorada de las Almas (The Golden Hour of Souls)—a moment to watch the sunset with a candle in hand and take in the special atmosphere enveloping the port.

Here, Las Pangas de Luz (The Pangas of Light) will be installed—a monumental tribute honoring local fishermen through flower-draped boats that illuminate as night falls.

Near the lighthouse on the Malecón (El Faro del Malecón), La Guardiana del Océano (The Ocean Guardian) will bring to life La Catrina Monumental, a figure representing the elegance and creativity with which Mexico honors the memory of its departed. This iconic artwork will be decorated with marine motifs such as waves, whales, and manta rays, alongside bougainvillea blossoms.

AMONG LEGENDS, FLOWERS, AND SENSORY EXPERIENCES
The celebration will extend to other corners of the city as well. El Último Umbral (The Final Threshold) will offer a floral and light pathway leading to El Faro de las Ánimas (The Lighthouse of Souls), located at the end of the Los Muertos Beach Pier.

Meanwhile, El Jardín de los Susurros (The Garden of Whispers) will provide an immersive experience in the heart of Cuale River Island, where trees, water, copal incense, candles, shadows, and local legends create an enchanting atmosphere.

Adding to these experiences is La Marea de las Ánimas (The Tide of Souls)—the Gran Desfile del Día de Muertos(Grand Day of the Dead Parade)—which will weave through the city across five thematic realms, led by catrines and catrinas dressed in classic Old Vallarta style. The date, time, and route are to be announced.

Visiting Puerto Vallarta during Day of the Dead offers an opportunity to connect with one of Mexico’s most meaningful traditions in an environment where art, memory, and celebration come together by the sea.
