On a balmy Puerto Vallarta afternoon, August 7, 2010, Puerto Vallarta ProMusica held its premiere performance at the beautiful Puerta del Cielo Chapel at Hacienda San Angel. The sold-out performance featured tenor Jorge Jiménez and violinist Gerardo Ponce, both from Guadalajara, who delighted audiences with a variety of operatic arias and surprising new arrangements of traditional Mexican songs. This short video, produced by local artist Miguel Pérez, highlights one of the pieces performed, Con te partirò, by Italian composers Francesco Sartori and Lucio Quarantotto. The new organization hopes to attract other performers from Mexico and beyond to Puerto Vallarta. “By partnering with private villa owners, local hotels and restaurants, not to mention local residents that have already expressed interest in providing financial support when needed, we are able to offer visiting artists the opportunity to perform in front of an audience, and enjoy a great vacation during the same trip,” commented Vallarta Lifestyles Publishing Group managing editor Paco Ojeda, one of the founding members of the organization. “We firmly believe that there must be amazing classical and jazz artists out there looking to get away from their surroundings and come to a place where its residents are as eager to enjoy cultural events as we are here in Puerto Vallarta.”

Puerto Vallarta ProMusica is presently developing an outreach strategy aimed at concert promoters, artist managers and music-related publications, primarily in Mexico, the US and Canada, hoping to attract the interest of musicians, worldwide. At the same time, they realize that the next performer might be nearer than they think. “For all we know, there is a local snowbird, living in Puerto Vallarta or Riviera Nayarit during the winter months, that lives next door to an amazing musician up north, or perhaps sits on the board of a major orchestra. It’s just a matter of sending a clear message: we want Puerto Vallarta to be increasingly perceived as a destination worth visiting because of its cultural opportunities, so every connection we make will get us closer to that goal.”

Its articles and advertising are target to the audience we’re looking for. Vallarta Lifestyles has grown the same way Puerto Vallarta has.”
