Puerto Vallarta has received a significant boost to its tourism industry during the first semester of 2023. According to the National Port System of Puerto Vallarta (ASIPONA), the arrival of passengers via maritime routes has experienced a noteworthy increase, marking a milestone in the destination’s history.

Between January and June of this year, more than 350,000 passengers arrived at the destination aboard 112 international cruises. These impressive figures represent a 40 percent increase compared to the same period in 2019 and a staggering 78 percent increase compared to 2022.

The outlook for the rest of the year is equally promising, as it is estimated that 59 additional cruises will dock at Puerto Vallarta, carrying approximately 179,000 more passengers. If this trend continues, 2023 would conclude with a total of 171 cruises received and over 530,000 passengers transported, making a significant contribution to the local economy, with an estimated economic impact of approximately 722 million pesos.

Maritime tourism accounts for nearly 6 percent of the total visitors to Puerto Vallarta. The city’s port infrastructure, along with its scenic beauty and warm hospitality, has been instrumental in attracting major international cruise lines, which view our destination as a must-stop on their itineraries.

However, Puerto Vallarta’s tourism success is not limited to maritime visitors. During the first six months of 2023, the destination has been chosen by more than 3.2 million visitors, representing a heartening 8 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This significant influx of visitors has resulted in an economic impact of 22.3 million pesos, marking a solid 5 percent increase compared to 2022.

Additionally, the hotel sector has also witnessed positive growth in the first semester of the year. The average hotel occupancy rate has remained at a healthy 78 percent, surpassing the previous year’s records by three percentage points, demonstrating the growing preference for Puerto Vallarta as a tourist destination.

This resurgence in visitor arrivals and flourishing maritime tourism are indicative of Puerto Vallarta’s ability to reinvent itself and adapt to the changing needs of travelers. The city continues to establish itself as a premier destination, offering unique experiences for those seeking relaxation on its beaches, as well as for those eager to immerse themselves in its vibrant cultural and gastronomic scene.

“Vallarta Lifestyles speaks for itself, it’s a good quality publication with great image, that’s why we have advertised since we started our business. Without any doubt, it is the most read magazine. Its articles and advertising are target to the audience we’re looking for. Vallarta Lifestyles has grown the same way Puerto Vallarta has.”

“We have been clients of Vallarta Lifestyles since 1999, the year in which we arrived to this destination. Back then, it was the only publication where you could really do local marketing. These days, in spite of the arrival of new technologies, we keep advertising, because it is a really important complement for our marketing strategy.”
