San Pancho Announces Capoeira Art Festival
The Fifth Capoeira Art Festival will take place in San Pancho, Riviera Nayarit, from April 7-10, gathering approximately 100 athletes from all over Mexico. The event will feature workshops and classes for all levels including beginner, intermediate and advanced, graduation ceremonies—known as the Batizada y Troca de Cordas—and conferences related to this Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics and music. It will be attended by Marcia Cigarra, Mexican mestre, and Paulinho Velho and Everson, mestres from Brazil, who will share their expertise with the participants.
The festival represents an excellent opportunity for those who are interested in beginning their training, as the minimum age for registration is three-and-a-half years old. In addition, Capoeira Art Festival will offer interactive activities as acrobatics, music, singing, dinners, talks and everything that encompasses this discipline experience.
“I think the cultural change in the town has been monumental. San Pancho is more welcoming than ever, it’s more polite, more open to other disciplines and other art forms,” said Joel Carrizo, director of the Escuela Abadá Capoeira Nayarit and a member of the organizing committee.
The Bodega del Circo de Los Niños, the Bodega Teatro and the Entre Amigos sports area are the venues hosting the event and access to the viewing public is free. For those who already practice the discipline, they can join the activities with prior registration. And for those who don’t, this is an excellent opportunity to learn about all the culture- and art-related activities taking place in the town.
San Pancho, also known as San Francisco, is considered the cultural capital of the Riviera Nayarit and it is located 45 minutes away from Puerto Vallarta by car, driving north along carretera 200.
