The Oyster Festival in Tehuamixtle: An Event to Celebrate the Sea and Tradition
Located south of Puerto Vallarta, in Costalegre, Jalisco, you will find Tehuamixtle, a beautiful beach with golden sands and crystal-clear waters. With these features, this place is the perfect setting for the Oyster Festival, one of the most anticipated gastronomic events in the region.
With its fourth edition scheduled for Saturday, May 4th, 2024, starting at 12:00pm, this festival celebrates oysters, one of the most representative products of the area.
Since its inception in 2019, the Oyster Festival has sought to promote oyster culture and strengthen the local economy of Cabo Corrientes, the municipality to which Tehuamixtle belongs. Through coordination between municipal and state authorities, local entrepreneurs, fishing cooperatives, and neighborhood associations, the event has grown in popularity and reach. In the 2022 and 2023 editions, nearly two tons of fresh oysters were distributed for free among more than a thousand visitors, who also enjoyed live music, folk dancing, raicilla-based cocktails, and culinary demonstrations by chefs and mixologists.
In 2024, attendees will be able to enjoy a wide range of activities, from free oyster tastings on the shell and sales of ceviches and local products, to the exciting contest for the world’s largest oyster. All of this takes place against the backdrop of live music and the Pacific Ocean as the stage.
If you are a seafood lover, the Oyster Festival in Tehuamixtle is a must-see event. Besides the opportunity to savor exquisite delicacies, you can immerse yourself in a unique gastronomic tradition.
