Xiutla Folkloric Ballet to Perform in Europe
Puerto Vallarta’s Xiutla Folkloric Ballet will travel to Europe this summer to perform in some of the continent’s most important destinations from July 21 – August 12.
The young performers that currently make up the dancing group will offer eight performances in different cities such as London, England; Innsbruck and Seefeld, Austria; Venice and Trento, Italy; and Rothenburg and Frankfurt, Germany. They will also have the opportunity to travel to Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein.
Director of the ballet, Enrique Barrios y Limón explained that this tour has been possible thanks to the support of the American artistic promoter Gilford Mahaffy, whose company has been sponsoring young artist tours for past last 45 years. Mahaffy got to know Xiutla folkloric ballet during a performance celebrated at Lázaro Cárdenas Park in Puerto Vallarta’s Emiliano Zapata neighborhood. His sponsorship exceeds 300 thousand euros. For its part, Puerto Vallarta’s municipal government, headed by Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña, has provided the group with over 60 thousand pesos in order to renovate wardrobe and address other important needs.
“You are ambassadors of Puerto Vallarta in this international tour. You are worthy representatives of this municipality. Make sure to elevate the names of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco and Mexico,” Arturo Dávalos Peña told the dancers.
Twenty-five dancers and four accompanying adults will depart from Puerto Vallarta to Mexico City this week, flying to London at midnight. Aside from their performances, the group will have the opportunity to enjoy tourism tours and attractions.
