There are actions that begin as a simple gesture and, over time, take on a much greater dimension. That is how the story of Limpia tu Mar began—a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and conserving the waters of Banderas Bay and its surrounding areas.
Its origins date back twelve years to the open-water trips shared by Rigoberto Pedroza and Captain Fermín “Chipol” Guzmán. During those outings, they began picking up the debris they encountered along the way. What seemed like a spontaneous act at the time evolved into a mission that was formalized in 2022 with the founding of the association.
Today, Limpia tu Mar combines sea, beach, and river cleanups with a solid educational component that includes workshops, advisory services, and the Cero Residuos (Zero Waste) program—an initiative focused on minimizing trash generation in restaurants.
The association is driven by collaborators such as César Chavarín, Fernanda Chavarín, and renowned photographer Samuel Reséndiz. Among its standout initiatives is the Torneo Internacional de Pesca de Basura(International Trash Fishing Tournament), which in October 2025 (its second edition) brought together 34 vessels and more than 200 participants to collect 3.5 tons of debris.
Its purpose transcends conservation: it is also about fostering a more conscious relationship with the environment that makes this region such a special destination.
